This is a project report on the English-Chinese translation of the 4th revised edition of The Law of Sex Discrimination that was written by Beth Anne Wolfson,J.Ralph Lindgren,Nadine Taub and Carla M.Palumbo.The author's team is responsible for the translation of the first three chapters.The author mainly translates Chapter three(Equal Employment Opportunities),which mainly talks about the history of Title ? of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,as well as the sex discrimination in employment and the related case analysis.As the original is very professional,it is difficult to translate.In terms of translation studies,this report has discussed translation practice and theoretical research on the issue of legal texts.In terms of translation content,this report can provide reference for the formulation and perfection of laws and regulations in our country to a certain extent.There are many legal terminologies,long sentences and passive voices in the original of the project,which brings some difficulties and challenges to translation.Guided by Nida's "theory of functional equivalence",the author has solved the difficult problems encountered in the translation project.In this report,the author has selected some typical examples containing legal terminologies and long sentences to analyze.Besides,the author has summarized the harvest and inspiration in the process of translation practice.The author has realized the preciseness of legal text translation through this translation practice.Besides,the author has learned a large number of legal terminologies and expressions and understood the sentence pattern of legal language deeply,which has improved author's translation skill to a certain extent.In conclusion,the author has gained a lot and hopes that the report can provide references for English-Chinese translation of legal texts and enhance people's attention to gender discrimination.
