The source text Torts, one of West Nutshell Series,is a representative legal text.In the process of translation, the author of this report finds that there are a large number of relevant legal terms and cases in the source text, and its translation becomes more difficult not only for the involving of two different kinds of law systems, but also for its special words, widespread long sentences, and unique style. So its translation should be placed in a reasonable theoretical framework and the translator should select the appropriate translation strategy so as to produce a translation which could better transmit the meaning of the source text, reflect the reading experience of source text reader and make the target language reader understand it in the same way.According to Eugene Nida's translation theory, the purpose of translation is to make the target language readers acquire the same response as the source text readers after reading the translation.Based on this view, after analyzing and studying,Nida's functional equivalence translation principle was chosen as the guide to explore the Chinese translation of such texts from the perspective of vocabulary, long sentences and style in legal texts by using different strategies at each corresponding perspective and investigate the translation of legal texts. |
