This is a translation project report on the translation of the second chapter of The Law of Sex Discrimination. The excerpt mainly talks about several cases based on gender discrimination and the experience of The Equal Rights Amendment at the federal level, which mainly shows how the Supreme Court has explained the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment in the course of cases concerning sex discrimination so as to eliminate gender discrimination.Even with the rapid development of economy and society,sex-based discrimination is still a common phenomenon in many countries. The author has chosen this famous book on sex discrimination as the translation material is to popularize relevant legal knowledge, enhance people's attention to this phenomenon,as well as provide certain reference for the formulation of Chinses relevant laws and regulations. As the source text is a legal text, including many legal terms and legal background information as well as many complicated long sentences, the author faces many challenges.Guided by Nida's “theory of functional equivalence” and by using some translation skills, the author has coped with the challenges, aiming at achieving the equivalence of information and style between the target text and the original text,as well as improving the translation quality. The report is designed into four parts: translation project background, task description, case study and conclusion.Through this translation project, the author has learnt professional and rigorous legal text and acquired a large amount of legal terms and translation methods of complicated sentences. The author also has experienced the challenges and difficulties faced by translators. There is still a long way to be an excellent translator. The author has deeply realized that continuous practice and studying theoretical knowledge are necessary in the future study of translation.
