Virginia Woolf's famous novel Mrs.Dalloway, which established her remarkable status as one of the most influential English writers in the twentieth century, reflects the author's feminist thoughts. In this novel the author describes the heroine's one-day story, which embodies her reflection of her own whole life by narrating the story in great detail.Woolf uses her mature technique of stream of consciousness to express her own critical attitude towards many social issues, especially towards the problem of the repressed existence of the female.Feminist narratology combines the theory of feminism with narratology, which provides a reasonable way to analyze modern feminist works.Based on feminist narratology, this thesis tries to explore the narrative authority by analyzing the narrative voice and the narrative techniques such as free indirect speech and maxim in this novel. In addition to the introduction and the conclusion parts, the thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the feminist narratology in brief. The second chapter analyzes the authorial narrative voice, personal narrative voice and communal narrative voice. The third chapter explores the free indirect speech shown by the author's description of several main characters. The last chapter of the body part analyzes the uses of maxims.Through these analyses, the thesis draws to the conclusion that the author Woolf obviously achieves her goal to establish the narrative authority by means of various narrative techniques.
