In the background of education informatization,micro-lecture has become a new way of presenting online teaching resources and an important auxiliary resource for teaching and learning.Accordingly,the upsurge of researches on micro-lectures of foreign languages has also arisen.This paper,taking the 16 first prize-winning works of two sessions of the Micro-Course Contest of Foreign Languages in China as the research subjects,discussed the features of the excellent micro-lectures of foreign languages through multimodal analysis,questionnaires,interviews and word frequency.Firstly,in order to find out how the various symbolic resources were employed to construct meaning,this paper statistically analyzed all the modes that appeared in the 16 works and the relationships among them based on the Multimodal Analysis Theory Framework proposed by Zhang(2009).Secondly,this paper applied questionnaires and interviews to investigate the features of excellent micro-lectures of foreign languages in the eyes of foreign language teachers.Finally,this paper explored the features of the excellent micro-lectures of foreign languages in the experts' opinion by means of word frequency.This study eventually found that:(1)The auditory modality accounts for the most part of all the modalities that appeared in the 16 works.Furthermore,most of the relationships between the auditory modality and the visual modality belong to complementary relation;(2)Foreign language teachers and experts believe that high-quality micro-lectures of foreign languages should have the features as follows: 1)The topic should be unique,interesting and small in scope,and it should be based on students' needs and interests;2)The teaching objects should be practical and be based on students' ability to accept knowledge;the teaching procedures should be complete;the teaching structure should be clear and logical;the teaching content should be rich,reasonable,complete,novel and concise;the pronunciation of teaching language should be standard,clear,fluent;the speed of speech should be moderate;3)The video should be smooth,vivid,stable,clear,harmonious and without noises.These findings can provide theoretical instructions for the makers of micro-lectures of foreign languages,enlighten them to create more high-quality video resources,and then promote the construction of excellent micro-lectures of foreign languages in China,offer superior resources for the implementation of MOOCs,flipped classroom and other newly-emerged teaching models,propel the occurrence of effective teaching and learning,give impetus to the realization of the reform of foreign language teaching.
