On The Subversion Of The Traditional Females Images In 2 Broken Girls

2 Broke Girls is an American television sitcom that aired on CBS from September 19,2011 to April 17,2017.It soon attracts millions of audiences all over the world and people also begin to discuss feminism shown in this TV series.What's more,this TV series brings the audiences the positive portrayal of perspective to deep the understanding of gender role,which also becomes the subject of this thesis.From the perspective of Judith Butler's theory of Performativity,this thesis argues that this TV series subverts the traditional stereotyped female images against disciplined body,oppressed talk and confined life by analyzing the female roles in the TV series 2 Broke Girls.This thesis consists of three parts.The first part is an introduction,giving a brief review on 2 Broke Girls,previous studies on 2 Broke Girls,studies on Judith Butler's theory of Performativity,the aim and significance of the thesis and the structure of the thesis.The second part has three chapters,which focuses on the analysis of some female roles in this TV series.Chapter one aims to argue the subversion of traditional female images against undisciplined body,explaining by plump figure and unfashionable dress-up;chapter two intends to argue the subversion of traditional female images against oppressed talk,explaining by disobedience to male talk and superior to male talk;chapter three argues for the subversion of traditional female images against confined life,elaborating by unconfined career life and unconfined love relationship.The last part is the conclusion: the TV series of 2 Broke Girls is the subversion of traditional female images by means of showing that gender is performative rather than inborn and innate.
