Piano nocturne,as a characteristic sketch born at the beginning of 19 th century, provided the feasibility and reference for the establishment and development of other genres which promoted the diversity development of western music.Nocturne that was the earliest vocal genre, generated from religious rites in the Middle Ages was established as an independent piano instrument genre by John Field and therewith developed into other fields of creation after hundreds of years of hostorical precipitation. The genre of piano nocturne was pioneered and given "salon sex" by Field, which made it the characteristic of dreamlike and laziness.Noctrne is rising to "dramatic" music and developing to its peak since Chopin melts his patriotic feelings and natural melancholy into it so that the genre is no longer just an entertaining music.Frey reduced the ornate part of the nocturne instead of the church style, which thus showed restraint and simplicity.Planck as a composer in 20 th century revoluted the slow state of nocturne meditation so that the music became relatively lively and throbbing by incorporating his bold creative thinking and neoclassical thoughts into nocturne, which made nocturne acted the characteristics of "ghost and horse nature" out.Chapter 1 of the article mainly expounds the historical circumstances of the creation of piano nocturne and the pattern of piano nocturne before the genre was created. From Chapter 2 to Chapter 5,it respectively discusses the lives, the social background, the artistic characteristics of nocturne of four composers,of which the artistic characteristics of their nocturnes are the focus of this paper. The author decomposes the composition techniques in nocturne used by the composers, starting from the music ontology of each composer and combining the sound data, and analyzes from the structural style, melodic trend, tone, harmony configuration, texture accompaniment, dynamics changes and so on,hencethere the evolution of piano nocturne is clearly revealed to us.
