As a social-cultural study of the music phenomenon,this paper starts from the waltz and the middle class and focuses on the relationship between the music and the audience.The waltz is a folk dance,normally in triple time.Its name first appeared in the mid-18 th century to represent a dance.In the late 18 th century and the early 19 th century,dancing was the most popular pastime of the citizens of Vienna,and waltz was the darling of the colorful dance world.As participants of this music event were mostly the middle-class citizens of Vienna,the popularity of the waltz was inextricably linked with the middle class.The introduction presents research purpose and significance,domestic and overseas research on the relationship between the waltz and the middle class,and the framework of the paper.The first chapter clarifies the social conditions of the Biedermeier period,and analyzes the aesthetic preferences of the Viennese middle-class citizens and the relevant causes in this period.The second chapter explores the characteristics of the waltz and Viennese middle class of the 19 th century,analyzes the origin and development of the waltz and the characteristics of its creation and genres,and reveals the aesthetic taste,economic situation and education level of the middle class during this period.The third chapter is the key chapter of this paper,dealing with the relationship between the social life of the Viennese middle-class citizens and the waltz.It is believed in this paper that the waltz was the direct embodiment of the middle-class aesthetic taste and the most representative “civic art” in the Biedermeier period.The waltz has a close relationship with the middle class,satisfying their musical aesthetic and entertainment needs and establishing a sense of class identity in them.Meanwhile,“competition” among composers,propaganda of publishers and creations mirroring the middle-class life also contributed to the development and prosperity of the waltz. |
