The book,Xi Jinping: The Governance of China is an important window to make China known to the world,reflecting the ruling idea and governing principles of China's central leadership.The book and its translation versions of different foreign languages,especially its English one,Xi Jinping: The Governance of China enjoys large-scale popularity among western readers.For Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,people-based friendliness is its feature with many stories,allusions and metaphors.The author of this thesis holds that metaphorical expression is not only a linguistic phenomenon,but also concerns a cognitive approach.It is a rhetorical discourse aimed at influencing the audience and realizing persuasive effect.Therefore,in order to faithfully convey the meaning of the source language,translators have to be armed with rhetorical awareness and employ western rhetorical theory to guide translation practice.So in this thesis,the author attempts to study the rhetorical impacts on the translation of metaphorical expressions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China from the perspective of rhetorical persuasion.Further,the author intends to explore the references for achieving the expected goal of international publicity translation with rhetorical persuasion.Finally,the author finds:(1)rhetorical persuasion and studies on international publicity translation share a lot of common grounds,such as interdisciplinarity,goal orientation and situation adaptiveness;(2)through introducing rhetorical persuasion perspective,new findings can be attained,like new understandings and locating of translation behavior,translation process and the translator's role.In short,translators,in the process of translating,are not only language transmitters,but also rhetors who are expected to faithfully convey the genuine contents in source text and effectively realize the persuasion for target language readers;(3)based on the cases' study,in the translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,with flexible translation methods by resorting to Aristotle's three persuasion concepts(ethos,pathos and logos),it is fruitful for the faithful expression of original text as well as its acceptance among the target language readers,which is helpful for achieving effective persuasion.Therefore,the author holds that introducing rhetorical persuasion into translation studies can broaden their research horizon and it is beneficial for winning English readers' identification and accomplishing anticipated goal in international publicity translation with Aristotle's three persuasion concepts and proper translation methods followed.
