Political publicity texts, containing a large number of Chinese-specific expressions accessible to readers, embody the government's principles, positions and policies with simple language and profound contents.Xi Jinping:The Governance of China II contains a series of important speeches delivered by President Xi about the governance of China, enabling readers to understand the thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.Its English version is translated by an elite translation team consisting of experts from Ministry of Foreign Affairs,Compilation and Translation Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and other institutions organized by China International Publishing Group. It is a representative example of the translation of the political publicity. Therefore, the research on the English translation of Chinese-specific expressions in this book can provide valuable references for the translation of the same type of texts in the future. The English translation of political publicity texts, especially for their Chinese-specific expressions,is expected to achieve the goals of cultural transmission and political communication on the basis of fidelity to the source texts.Eco-Translatology,proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen, claims that the translation strategies are mainly represented by three-dimensional transformations, that is,the transformations on the linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. The three dimensions agree with the goals of the translation of political publicity texts, providing a new perspective for the research on the translation studies of Chinese-specific expressions. After presenting the introduction, literature review and theoretical framework, the thesis expounds the translational eco-environments(the eco-environment that the translators should adapt to)of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China II from the aspects of object and subject;then, based on the self-built table,it analyzes the translation methods adopted by the translators for different Chinese-specific expressions from the perspective of three-dimensional transformations;in the end,it summarizes the findings and limitations of this research.Through the research, conclusions can be drawn as follows. In terms of the linguistic dimension, for four-character chain structure and verses, the translators mainly adopt the methods of literal translation, addition, combination and extension to keep the balance between the style of the source language and the linguistic conventions of the target readers. In terms of the cultural dimension, for allusions and idiomatic phrases, the translators flexibly adopt combination, omission and substitution, and explanation, besides literal translation, addition and extension to keep the balance between cultural transmission of the source language and bilingual cultural communication. In terms of the communicative dimension, for the expressions related to politics, the methods of literal translation, literal translation with annotation and extension are mainly adopted to keep the balance between political publicity and the acceptance of the target readers. The thesis confirms the explanatory role of Eco-Translatology in the translation of Chinese-specific expressions in political publicity texts;its research results and the self-built table enrich the research cases of Eco-Translatology;at the same time, the translation methods extracted in the study are conducive to improving the translation efficiency of texts of the same type.
