David Lodge is one of the most preeminent literary critics and novelists in contemporary Britain.His campus novel has always been the focus of scholars at home and abroad,especially his Trilogy of Campus Novel including Small World,Changing Place and Nice Work.However,aimed at the text nature of his novels,some scholars discuss its attribution.In the second half of the twentieth Century,after replacement and integration of Realism,Modernism and Postmodernism,some British novelists still insisted on selecting theme from reality,while other scholars derived nourishment from the Postmodernism and made innovations in the form of literature.Owing to Trilogy of Campus Novel is created in that kind of cultural context,it is easy for us to misunderstand these works if we dogmatically make a simple classification of his book.On the one hand,the three novels have complete story plot,vivid characters,clear theme and use the third person omniscient perspective which is used in traditional novel narration.On the other hand,there are many typical post-modern writing techniques in the novel,such as collage,parody,etc.We can see David Lodge not only loves traditional realism,but has a strong post-modern consciousness.The thesis is divided into five parts,which is composed of the introduction,the three chapters and the conclusion.The first chapter briefly introduces the David Lodge and his working experience.Then the thesis analyses the current research situation of David Lodge's works at home and abroad.The second chapter makes a brief analysis of the history of the post-war British novels and explains the art of David Lodge's novels.The third chapter discusses the novel describes the scene in real detail,the external depiction of the characters and the linear structure of the plot,the narrative perspective of Omniscience of the Trilogy of Campus Novel.The last chapter explains the concept of postmodernism at first and concludes the embodiment of postmodern characteristics in the novel after studying Trilogy of Campus Novel.The conclusion summarizes the artistic characteristics of Trilogy of Campus Novel: David Lodge's novels not only inherit traditional realism,but also derive the writing skills of Postmodernism.In hence,his novels present special artistic characteristics and mark a direction for the development of post-war British Novels.
