David Damrosch(1953-)is a famous comparative literary scholar at the Harvard University in the United States.He has made great achievements in the theory and practice of world literature.Looking back on his study and work experience,he focused on the field of comparative literature and world literature.He has published many academic monographs which have been widely discussed and expressed his unique views on "world literature" in many papers.Through years of theoretical exploration and teaching practice,a set of "world literature" concepts has been formed.He has concentrated his long-term research results and has been recognized by the international comparative literature circle.This thesis will give a systematic introduction and analysis of Damrosch's views of "world literature" from five chapters.The first chapter is the preface.It offers the general situation about the significance of the study of Damrosch's views of "world literature".Then sort out the research status at home and abroad and form document review.Briefly introduce research ideas and basic content.The second chapter discusses connotation of the concepts of Damrosch's "world literature".He has three definitions of "world literature",they are "world literature is an elliptical refraction between national literatures","world literature is the literature benefiting from translation" and "world literature is a reading mode".The differences and similarities between the concepts of "world literature" by Damrosch and Goethe,Casanova and other scholars are also important parts of this chapter.The third chapter explains Damrosch's "world literature" classic views.It can be summed up in three levels,they are "hyper canon","counter canon" and "shadow canon".Then discuss some related views of literary classics by experts such as Bloom and Calvino.The fourth chapter studies Damrosch's reading strategies and teaching ideas of "world literature".The author sums up his achievements in the practice of "world literature" from two dimensions of reading and teaching.At the same time,the author ponders how his reading and teaching methods have enlightenment for domestic world literature teaching.In the specific writing of these chapters,the differences between Damrosch's "world literature" views and the famous scholars at home and abroad will be compared.Thus the value of Damrosch's "world literature" views is highlighted and increase academic depth of thesis.The final conclusionpart summarizes the full text,draws the point of view,and objectively appraise Damrosch's views of "world literature".Reiterate the innovation of the topic and look forward to the future research prospects.
