Study On The Cultural Identity Of Jewelry

Jewelry is born and developed with the growth of human civilization,closely linking to the mankind history of production.In this thesis,the concept of "Cultural Identity" is introduced to study the development of jewelry.Cultural Identity presents the identity in a cultural perspective.The emergence and further development of jewelry is relevant to our cultural background and identity,thus embodying the cultural connotation.That's the definition of cultural identity of jewelry.The development of jewelry cultural identity,which is not isolated and without any change,is linked with many natural and social factors,especially with social or natural environment,ethnic culture,religious belief and the characteristics of different times.This thesis shows this development process through the discussion of the development and cultural attributes of jewelry in different periods and different regions.The first chapter analyzes the research fruits and significance;the second chapter briefly describes the history of jewelry development;the third chapter expounds the specific cultural identity of jewelry and its development features;the fourth and the fifth chapters discuss the traditional and modern jewelry cultural identity.When comparing and analyzing the jewelry cultural identities in different regions,the time remains consistent.The traditional jewelry includes those in early civilized society and in feudal society;The mainly analyzed objects are Sumerian civilization in Mesopotamia region,the ancient Egyptian civilization after the reunification of Egypt and Liangzhu civilization of the lower reaches of Yangtze River in the early civilized period.The common point of the three different civilizations in jewelry cultural identity presents religious worship in ancient times when people took jewelry as a medium to communicate with God.As for the traditional jewelry of feudal society,the author mainly comparatively analyzes the one of Eastern Roman Empire in the Middle Ages,also known asthe Byzantine Empire,and the other of China in Sui,Tang,Song and Yuan Dynasties.The cultural identity of the jewelry in this period reflects the rule of royal power in the political and spiritual aspects.To the present society,people has had an increasingly open and inclusive mind to jewelry.The value and significance of jewelry have been expanded continuously.In contemporary,the jewelry cultural identity carries spirit and thinking of this era,focusing more on the creative,artistic and spiritual aspects.Then verifying the relationship between jewelry cultural identity and people through graduation design.
