In recent years, the communication of culture and technology between western countries and China is on the rise. The updated technological advancement and the overwhelming technical literature concerning academic studies are just good cases in point, which sets an enormous demand for both the decoding and translation of texts of the English for Science and Technology(EST)genres.However,ill-considered translations on them(to wit, negative Europeanization)are simultaneously flooding into the translation market, which arouses the grave concern of many scholars and teachers.Endeavors on combating this nocuous tendency in translation practice are under way.Under such circumstance, the negative Europeanization in EST texts translation is a worthwhile academic study. As is commonly agreed on,Europeanization,a process of adopting a number of English features in the target language, can be categorized into either positive or negative. When the features are adopted mechanically, the negative Europeanization occurs.Literature review shows that most of studies on Europeanization are within sentential level and focus on formal equivalence between English and Chinese.Studies that highlight the structural analysis beyond sentential level to achieve dynamic equivalence are few and far between. This thesis focuses on the structural features and embarks on a textual study of the negative Europeanization. As known to all,one of the most obvious features is that English is chiefly characterized by hypotaxis while Chinese is chiefly characterized by parataxis. This structural difference can result in the negative Europeanization in the process of translation. Therefore, this thesis adopts hypotaxis and parataxis as the theoretical basis. The author makes a tentative study on the negative Europeanization, including its universal existence in EST genres, its classifications in EST texts translation and its negative influence ontranslations and cultural communications.Based on the comparative study from the perspective of hypotaxis and parataxis,it's clear that the negative Europeanization has a negative influence on the information transmission and affects the Chinese purity in the long run.By adopting the contrast and illustration methods, this thesis points out two factors leading to the negative Europeanization. They are the improper transfer of thematic progression patterns in source text and the unawareness of languages in contrast. To solve the negative Europeanization in EST texts translation, this thesis puts forward translation strategies revolving around both hypotaxis concerning the source texts and parataxis regarding the target texts. What's more, this thesis highlights the translator's subjectivity, offering some suggestions on how to handle the language sensitivity to English, the unawareness of languages in contrast and inaptness in using Chinese.
