Communication strategy is closely associated with the whole process of communication for second language learners.It can ensure the continuous communication and smooth communication channels,and gain self-confidence and language input,and overcome the difficulties.It is also an indispensable principle to help learners achieve their communicative goals.Therefore,the author conducted a questionnaire survey on 182 foreign students at Dalian University of foreign Language.The survey covered the level of Chinese,gender,Chinese circles and the use of communication strategies,then the data were analyzed by using social science system software SPSS 19,and interviews were conducted to further verify the results of the questionnaire survey.It is found that the level of Chinese,gender and Chinese circles affect the use of communication strategies.In terms of the level of Chinese,foreign students at lower levels of Chinese use their mother tongue strategies more often,foreign students at higher levels of Chinese use their target language strategies and search strategies more often.Foreign students at lower levels use communication strategies more frequently than foreign students at higher levels.In terms of gender,female foreign students are more likely to use target language strategies,cooperation strategies and sublanguage strategies than male counterparts,female students use communication strategies more frequently than male counterparts.In the case of Chinese circle,the native language strategy and the form reduction strategy are more commonly used by foreign students in the Chinese circle,and the secondary language strategy is more often used by non-Chinese circle foreign students.Comprehensive analysis results,the author gives useful reference value for teaching.
