The research of American foreign policy in regional conflicts is an important project in American studies. After the ending of World War II, the United States became a superpower in the world and began to establish its global hegemony by implementing its global strategy. How to deal with regional conflicts related to American interests is an important issue of American global strategy. The research of American foreign policy in regional conflicts is complicated, significant and really interesting. The Suez Crisis is a striking event in the postwar Middle East and the Middle East is an indispensable part of American global strategy, which is of great research value. This paper focuses on the “why” of America's foreign policy to the regional conflict----the Suez Crisis. In chapter one, the author proves that the international pattern in 1950 s is a determinant factor for America's peaceful solution to the Suez Crisis. International pattern is a core issue in international relations, which has an effect on the making of foreign policy. In chapter two, the author demonstrates that American national interest in the Middle East contributes to the final U.S. policy to the Suez Crisis. Ultimately, the author explains that the personal consideration of decision maker influences the final U.S. policy to the Suez Crisis. As a typical Mid-Eastern conflict which America has interfered in, the Suez Crisis is already over but other Mid-Eastern conflicts still break out occasionally. This paper aims to prove that America's role in the peaceful solution to the Suez Crisis is determined by the international pattern in 1950 s, American national interest and the personal consideration of decision maker. The research on the determinants of U.S. policy to the Suez Crisis provides a helpful chain of thought and approach to analyze American foreign policies toward Mid-Eastern conflicts today and even conflicts in other regions.
