Since 1980s, folk beliefs in the modern society are becoming more and more popular and are growing revival, especially in the rural society. It gradually becomes a very active social phenomenon, which has a profound impact on the production and life of rural society. At the same time, the rural governance as an academic concept has been put forward in 1990 s. Then the passion of studying it in academic community has not faded, and formed relatively rich research findings. This thesis is combined with the study of both text and based on the field investigation, and analyzes the social functions of folk beliefs by academic style, in addition,proposes that the valuable functions can meet the needs of rural governance's appeal and be used or participate in it. In this framework, the thesis first analyzes the transitions and the existing state of the folk beliefs and rural governance in the contemporary China from the perspective of history and sociology, in order to find out the concept, characteristics, essence and evolution of the both. Through the analysis of the realistic predicament and the causes of rural governance in China, to grasp the situation and contradictions of the rural governance is to try to find the genes and resources needed for rural governance. And then exploring the functions of the folk beliefs which has been existing or could be dug or the possible advantages in dilemma in the current rural governance in China is to summarize the basic functions of the folk beliefs in political, economic, social, spiritual and cultural and ecological aspects, revealing the feasibility and necessity of the participation of folk beliefs in rural governance. Then to generalize the principles of folk beliefs orderly participation in rural governance: combination of self-discipline management and supervision by the government; combination of the village regulations and system specification; combination of spiritual guidance and cultural education, guided by socialist mainstream values; combination of the rural elite and grassroots cadres. Finally, based on the folk beliefs in the rural governance, this thesis ending with the thinking and enlightenment of rural governance conceives the ought-to-be of rural governance outline and architecture: multivariate equality, procedural justice, and finally reach the ideal goal of good governance.
