Jonathan Hughes is a prominent scholar of the British Ecological Marxism, the “Ecological and Historical Materialism” is his masterpiece. In the book, Hughes regards Marxist values as logical premise, re-examine the relationship between humans and nature from the fact that the natural environment suffers serious damage. He advocates a “generalized anthropocentrism” values. Adhering to the values,Hughes attributes the ultimate root of ecological crisis to the capitalist mode of production and its worldview. On this basis, to explore a new road to eliminate the ecological crisis and achieve socialism. Hughes' seeing ecological problems as a starting point to think about human survival mode change, answers the world's most common problems about nature, human society and the relationship between man and the world. Hughes' answers to these questions, gradually builds its worldview of ecological Marxism. In this paper, uses Hughes' book “Ecological and Historical Materialism” for raw materials. Adhering to the basic principles of Marx in theory and method, comprehensively and systematically study Hughes' ecological Marxist ideology from the worldview of domain nature, social values, history values.Through the study, find in Hughes' ecological view of nature, analyzes two basic concepts of man and nature, points out the relationship between the two, and believes humans' dependence on nature is dominant. To achieve a harmonious coexistence between man and nature,Hughes proposed “generalized anthropocentrism”values. In its ecological society,Hughes insisted on studying the society in nature to resolve the conflict between them, advocated the development of eco-efficiency and productivity of science and technology. In its ecological history, Hughes focused on the fundamental relations of social existence and social consciousness, productivity and production. Analyzing the law of human history, Hughes criticized the contemporary capitalist system, and treated “eco-socialism ”as an ideal humanity destination.Hughes' views on these fundamental issues of natural, social, historical areas, gradually forming the framework of his Ecological Marxism Worldview.Clarify Hughes' Ecology Marxist Worldview, compare it to Marxist worldview, help to understand the philosophical and theoretical foundation of the entire Western Ecological Marxism, expanding Marxist worldview's positive significance to contemporary environmental issues, responding environment theorists' anti ecological criticism of Marx's worldview. In practice, it has a certain significance on our breakthrough of ecological problems and construction of ecological civilization. Meanwhile, it also has some limitations, such as inevitably reduces the theoretical value of Marxist worldview because of seeing ecological problems as all the content of Marx's worldview, deviates from Marx's two basic contradiction,Hughes' avoiding to answering the way to eco-socialism makes it have a certain degree of utopia.
