An Empirical Research On The Social Participation Of The Urban Elder In China

In recent years,China's economy development is booming,and people's living standards are improving.Now people's average life expectancy has been significantly extended.However,along with a general increase in people's life expectancy,the number of elderly people is also rising year by year,and our country entered the aging society.A large elder population,and it has been paid more attention by the country,the society and the family.However,existing support and maintenance was too much focus on the physical level,while ignoring the needs of the elder spiritual.For the elder,their spiritual needs in addition to the need to have their children's company,but also need to have a chance to re integrate into society.Giving older people a chance to participate in social life and activities,often than the emphasis on "often go home" to see more realistic significance,this is also our researchers can begin to provide the direction of help.Therefore,the author from this level,the focus of attention to the elder after retirement issues of social participation.This study uses qualitative research methods,through interviews with ten elder,to explore the experience of their participation,and then from the whole process of participation in the search for the problem,put forward solutions.The study found that older people participate in the whole process is the result of a rational choice.This rational choice can help older people to participate in selecting the optimal behavior.However,the rational choice of the elder did not bring the desired results,the elderly get together and appear to participate in the underlying issues,such needs can not be fully met the elder,the elder and resources also seriously underutilized.Accordingly,in follow-up study,the author continues to explore the factors that influence social participation of older persons,and made the following three recommendations for improvement:(1)Establish a positive attitude;(2)Improve the social support and protection;(3)The development of elder education.Thus developing the social participation can meet the spiritual needs of the elder.
