The Rio Grande changed its course in 1964,washing Mexico's territory of Chamizal toward the United States, and this event led to case of territorial dispute for a hundred years. As a matter of fact, Chamizal dispute was not a simple territorial dispute, also included water resource and other banco problems, causing the event itself became more complicated. Mexico had always regarded this dispute as stain of national dignity, the United States think it was lawful means to maintain national glory, consciousness differences made it harder for both sides to achieve unified solution. Moreover, this dispute was difficult to solve for a long time was closely related to the unstable Mexico-U.S Relations. Even so, both sides made substantial effort in problem solving since negotiations officially opened in 1895. In 1964, a hundred years of territorial disputes drew on pause.1911 was an important watershed in the whole process of solving dispute. Before that, through the discussion of ways of river channel change, both sides made a judgement to the ownership of Chamizal. Since then, the focus was whether the 1911 Judgement is valid. The final solution of the dispute was related to the international background of the cold war,but also inseparable from the efforts of the senior leaders of both sides, at the same time it also about the increasing cost to solve problems. The success of dispute settlement not only strengthened the senior relationships between the U.S. and Mexico, built an orderly development environment for boundary areas, but also provided a good example for international law to solve similar border disputes.
