At the end of the 1960s,China's security environment deteriorated. On the one hand,Sino-Soviet relations broke down.On the other hand,China was besieged by ideological enemies, from India to Southeast Asia to Japan.China was facing an unprecedented security crisis, however,Japan publicly claimed that Taiwan area was a most important factor for the security of Japan, this provocative posture stimulated China's sensitive nerves. In this historical background,China began to criticize the"resurgence of Japanese militarism" in the diplomatic field. This article mainly discusses the origin, the disappearance and its influence of the"resurgence of Japanese militarism" theory in China.Through the analysis of the theory, the author holds that China's "resurgence of Japanese militarism" theory is the reflection of China's security awareness in crisis situations.China criticized Japan in the diplomatic field with these facts,like:"Sato-Nixon Joint Statement","Japan-US Security Treaty",Okinawa,Diaoyu Islands, and China's representation in the United Nations. However,it should be noticed that the "resurgence of Japanese militarism"theory was a political proposition,it was aimed at the US-Japan relations and Japan's hostile attitude towards China, and it was difficult to exist for a long time. Therefore, after the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, the"resurgence of Japanese militarism" theory quickly disappeared in China's diplomatic term.Even though,China's "resurgence of Japanese militarism" theory had a certain effect on the detente of Sino-US relations and,to some extent, speeding up the process of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan. Therefore, the role of the theory should not be underestimated in promoting the development of bilateral relations.
