Queen Elizabeth ?(1558-1603)was an outstanding monarch,as the last monarch of the British Tudor,whose rule was called "golden age" of British history.In order to improve their own dangers,the queen used the special status of unmarried women to establish a unique public image of virgin queen's,and used her sex and virginity as a powerful weapons to open her marriage diplomacy with the king of European countries.This paper expounds the important role of "marriage diplomacy" in the special period of the United Kingdom by analyzing the definition,reasons and process of "marriage diplomacy"."Marriage diplomacy" involves the object of Spain,France,Austria,Sweden,Denmark and other countries,the main purpose is to maintain the balance of power between continental Europe.The Queen's "marriage diplomacy" negotiations lasted for 25 years,but she did not have a real marriage relationship with any of the"marriage diplomacy" objects,because the queen only used "marriage diplomacy" as foreign policy to solve her own international and domestic problems.In summary,the Queen's "marriage diplomacy" has its historical inevitability.Combined with the then medieval background,coupled with family background,humanistic education,tendency of celibacy of the queen,"marriage diplomacy" came into being.Facts have proved that the Queen use "marriage diplomacy" as a diplomatic strategy,and its role is significant.Not only provide a good international environment for the British recuperation,mercantilist,agriculture,handicrafts,business have made considerable progress,won the support of the domestic people to consolidate their own rule;established a moderate religious policy that did not lead tothe religious conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism;achieved the general goal of foreign policy:to maintain the balance of power in Western Europe,created favorable conditions for the arrival of the British "golden age".
