The Governance Plight And Direction Of Contemporary Ethnic Secessionism

As the third wave of the nationalism's development in the world,ethnic secessionism has become a thorny issue in both national and global governance.Due to the influences of various factors,the classification of ethnic secessionism appears to be diverse.The developing stages of them are also quite different;however,the causes of its development are basically the same,namely one secessionism's subjective dissatisfaction.In addition,the development of ethnic secessionism has significant impacts on the sovereign states and international situation.Overall,the governance of contemporary ethnic secessionism has three main modes,consisting of the social and political mode,the democracy and rule of law mode,the violent mode.And during a certain period,these modes can be applied together.From the current point of view,there is no such a mature and effective method to govern ethnic secessionism.Relevant countries are still committed to tackle this issue by means of practicing and summarizing.But there is no deny that ethnic secessionism can be governed,as the relevant factors provide the possibilities for the governance of ethnic separatism,that is to say,the identity can be constructed,national interests are in order,and national elites can be shaped.In fact,the reason why ethnic secessionism is hard to govern is that governance is facing a series of obstacles,including the theoretical predicament of the national self-determination and multi-ethnic state,the political dilemma of national policy and foreign intervention,the international environment predicament brought by globalization and pluralism.Accordingly,the governance of national secessionism is to overcome these difficulties.As an international problem,apart from being governed by each county,ethnic secessionism can be governed by means of cooperating with other countries and using the global governance platform provided by United Nations(UN).In spite of that the governance role of UN is not that significant and national cooperation exits some adverse factors,these two above-mentioned methods can be applied.That is to say,the future direction of governing ethnic secessionism could be continuing to play the main role of sovereign states' governance,promoting national cooperation actively and strengthening the influential role of UN as one of the representatives who has great impacts on global governance.
