During the Republic of China,due to political corruption and warlord dogfight,the masses could hardly survive,the autarkic traditional small-scale peasant economy was difficult to be maintained,and the rural economy and society reached the edge of collapse.At this time,social work was introduced by the Western missionaries and got preliminary localization development.As a missionary university,Yenching University expected to use practical actions to manifest christian spirit,so as to serve the Chinese society.Therefore,the university conveyed the idea of social services to its students,set up the Chingho Experimental Area and actively participated in the tide of rural construction,so as to serve the local peasants.The work ideas adhered to and working methods applied by organizers and workers of Chingho experiment possessed the elements of social work and intensively embodied the development of social work practices in the Republic of China era.This paper consists of six parts.Part one is the introduction,which states the research background,purpose and significance,as well as the theoretical value and practical significance of the research on rural construction in the Republic of China era.Part two sorts out the existing materials and describes the development background of Chingho experiment of Yenching University.Part three discusses the establishment,organizational operation and management of Chingho Experimental Area.Part four introduces the main work content of Chingho experiment in detail.Part five mainly analyzes the application of social work principles and practices contained in Chingho experiment.Part six briefly reviews the characteristics and historical status of Chingho experiment,and discusses the enlightenment from Chingho experiment on today's colleges and universities in carrying out social work practices and cultivating qualified social workers. |
