Study On Leisure Situation And Constraints Of Empty-Nesters In Nanchang City

As aging process develops and elderly family get empty nested,empty-nest elders account for higher and higher share of the elderly population.Meanwhile,with the promotion of people's living standard and the coming of leisure age,leisure demanding plays a more and more important role in our daily life.As one of the groups which own the most leisure time,lacking the accompanying of their children,empty-nest elders,on the one hand,hold more claims of leisure activities;one the other,there are much more and more complex constraints in the process of their participation.It is the key problem and focus of our family and society to study the leisure situation and constraints of empty-nest elders,assist them to overcome and reduce the leisure obstacles,and make them go through the leisure time in the most proper way for the situation where elderly will be appreciated and satisfied.Based on the literature review,the thesis takes empty-nest elders in Nanchang City as empirical analysis target in the ways of question survey and depth interview,aiming to discuss the leisure situation and constraints of empty-nest elderly in Nanchang City under different backgrounds,and to conduct multiple comparative analyses.Four hundred questionnaires were distributed in total and 375 questionnaires were effectively taken back.This thesis makes use of the covariance software of the SPSS 19.0 to carry on descriptive statistics,T-test analysis,and variance analysis of the questionnaires statistics.In addition,twenty representatives of empty-nest elders in Nanchang City were deeply interviewed in a practical research way in order to listen to their own voice,explore local concept and significant statement,and give the contrast analysis of the leisure situation and constraints of empty-nest elders in different social stratum.What this thesis finds is as follows:1.The leisure constraints of empty-nest elders in Nanchang City from large to small are in this order: institutional constraint,personal constraint and interpersonal constraint,which differs from the conclusion of class model in western leisure constraint.2.The actual participation number of holiday travelling is far below the expected one.3.Empty-nest elderly under different backgrounds have no obvious difference on leisure constraint from agenda,age and children's visit,but they are from degree of education,monthly income,occupation before retiring,living condition,economic resource,religious belief,and especially health condition.4.Empty-nest elderly have obvious difference on leisure constraint from different social classes.The thesis put forward appropriate strategy and measure for empty-nest elders in Nanchang City,relevant government departments and social groups in accordance with conclusion of this study in order to assist them to overcome and reduce the leisure obstacles.
