Research On Ways To Improve Online Opinion Mana Gement For Public Security Departments In Chengdu

In recent years,the rapid growth of internet industries has prompted the fast spreading of information.However,unorderly dissemination via the internet,especially during emergencies,usually leads to negative online public opinions,which turn out to be a common condition in handling public crisis.Public security departments usually stay at the frontline in coping with emergencies of various kinds.In some places,however,some of the departments have inadequate evaluation and assessment over online public opinions,thus lacking in effective response mechanisms.Once getting involved or handling improperly,policemen have to confront spreading of negative online public opinions.It will,to a large extent,undermine their law enforcement credibility.Therefore,it's of crucial academic and practical significance to find better ways for law enforcement personnel to improve their capabilities in managing online public opinions.This paper is based on systemized theories and literature review regarding public security departments' management of online public opinions.It analyses management models and plans to better handle these situations.The paper takes practices by the public security departments in southwest China's Chengdu City for example,to explain the necessity to conduct such a research,which has been based on adequate theories of pubic crisis management,multiple subjects,as well as information spreading.The author interviews several law enforcement teams in the city in order to present first-hand materials to testify major arguments of this paper.The paper puts forth countermeasures to improve the capabilities of managing online public opinions of the city's public security departments,by digging deeper into their existing problems and underlying causes.These countermeasures include an improvement of risk evaluation,rapid response decisions,performance management,building a resource-sharing platform and a team of online commentators,collaboration with higher education and research institutions.In a word,this paper is aimed to improve the capabilities of managing online public opinions for public security personnel in Chengdu,and help improve crisis management and law enforcement.
