In 2003,Ministry of Education of China issued The National English Curriculum Standards of Senior High Schools and firstly proclaimed that English cultural awareness is one of the teaching aims for Senior High School English.After the new curriculum reform,the aim of cultural awareness makes English teachers face the huge challenge,it requires senior high teachers possess the highest cultural quality and communicative competence.With the development of the curriculum reform,the role of English teachers is changing from the knowledge imparter to the students' learning organizer,the students' learning leader and the teaching facilitator.As the implementers of curriculum idea,teachers play a very critical role in English teaching,because the English culture teaching is becoming more and more important.Comprehension and acceptation of English teacher's cultural awareness aims,utilization of resource,skill of implementation and reflection should be matched with the requirements of curriculum standards.In other words,teachers' culture teaching awareness will have an indispensable influence on students' English culture learning.On the basis of relevant theories,this research investigates the present situation of senior high English teachers' culture teaching awareness,finds out some problems,and provides culture teaching implications for English teachers.These can improve teachers' culture teaching awareness and help them teaching efficiently.Research questions are as follows:1.What is the senior high school English teachers' attitude towards culture teaching?2.How do senior high school English teachers carry out culture teaching?3.What is the teachers' demand for their culture teaching?101 senior high English teachers from the Xiaoyi city,Shanxi province took part in this investigation.The author designed the questionnaire for teachers,and 12 teachers were involved in interview.The questionnaire has fifty-three questions,including the teachers' basic information,their attitude and demands towards culture teaching.Cultural awareness of teacher is divided into goal awareness,implementation awareness,resource awareness and evaluation awareness,and each dimension is analyzed to know how the senior high school English teachers carry out culture teaching.After the questionnaire,there was a face-to-face interview to investigate teachers' attitude and feeling towards culture teaching.It can be concluded that teachers do not attach enough attention to culture teaching.More factors influence teachers' cultural awareness,including the lack of the theoretical guidance,the deficiency of the cultural knowledge mastery,the difference of the textbook version,the deletion of the relevant training and the irrationality of the evaluation mechanism.In addition,the results of questionnaire and interview also show that though the majority of teachers hold the positive attitude towards cultural awareness,their cultural awareness need to be lifted.Despite there are some limitations in this study,the author still wants to share some findings of the thesis with the readers and provides some guidance for teachers in their culture teaching.
