Modern society is a knowledge-oriented society, which attaches great importance to talents and emphasizes efficiency. English, as one of the world's most widely used language, plays an important role in international communication. In the compulsory education stage, carrying out English classes has a very important influence which cannot be ignored on the young people's life development. Learning English not only helps them understand the world culture better but also disseminates Chinese culture, enhancing the communication and understanding all countries'people and also helps them develop inclusive and open mind, develop the cross-cultural awareness and competence. English materials is the carrier of culture, and also the carrier of curriculum implementation. Materials'quality directly affects the quality of talents'training. Therefore, the choice, analysis, and evaluation of English materials become particularly important.In 2000, the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and Macmillan Publishing (China) Co., Ltd. according to the national "compulsory education English curriculum standards (trial version)" organized and developed the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press version (new standard) Junior English teaching materials jointly. It have been used more than ten years since it has been come into use. In 2011, this set of English materials on the basis of nation's new promulgated "compulsory education English curriculum standards (2011 edition)" were revised. Previous analysis of English coursebook tends to focus on the direction of the basic skills of language, the studies on non-linguistic are not enough. The fundamental purpose of learning English is to achieve cross-cultural communication, use English to do things and improve efficiency. Efficiency's improvement can't without the support of effective strategies. Therefore, I chose to study whether the revised coursebook help students form an effective English language learning strategies and to what extent this set of English teaching Materials helps students develop their cross-cultural awareness and intercultural communication competence. My research methods include questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaire surveys include students' and teachers' questionnaires, interviews include students' and teachers' interviews. This research takes the Junior English Teaching Materials grade eight(volume four), FLTRP edition for example, Which is examined and approved by Education Ministry in 2013, use the social science statistical software SPSS 19.0 to analyze the survey results.The final result is that this set of coursebook generally help students develop effective English language learning strategies and largely help students develop intercultural communication awareness and competence.This paper consists of six parts. Part I, Introduction. It mainly introduces the materials analysis's research background, purpose, significance and literature review. Part ?, definition of teaching materials, the principles and standards of teaching materials'analysis and evaluation. The third part is to introduce the requirements of curriculum standards and the static analysis of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press version Junior English teaching materials. The fourth part is the study design, including research questions, research objects and research methods. The fifth part is the analysis and discussion of the findings. Focus on the two issues that I've studied, summarize teachers'and students'questionnaires and interviews. Part ?, Conclusions. Interpret the study's main conclusions, set forth proposed deficiencies which were existed in this study and propose recommendations for future improvements.
