From the perspective of the world language, English is the most widely used language. With the rapid development of globalization and information technology,more and more people will take part in learning English activities. As English teachers in the new era, only if English teachers improve their level of competence,they can meet the needs of the new curriculum reform, meet the needs of a new era and become qualified teachers of a new generation. Therefore, the competence level of English teachers is the key to the success of the new curriculum reform.The competence level of English teachers directly affects the entire English education and the increase of English proficiency of all students.In this paper, the author learns and revises English teacher competency assessment scale and develops surveys by randomly selecting junior high school English teachers in Nanchang Q region. The author make a data analysis from the overall competence and difference test on demographic variables to revealed the basic status of Nanchang public junior high school English teacher competency.Specifically, the author found the mainly following six questions about the city public junior high school English teacher competency.Firstly, the competency level of urban public junior high school English teacher competency is below average;Secondly, the competency level in four dimensions of professional quality, initiative,emotional management, the attention to feedback is particularly worrying; Thirdly,the level of competence of teachers below 50 years old is not high and the ability of communication and cooperation of the teachers between 41 years old and 50 years old is not satisfactory; the fourth, junior high school English teachers with high titles showed some advantages only in two dimensions( sense of responsibility and the attention to feedback). The Fifth, junior high school English teachers with different educational levels make no difference. It is totally out of respect.the sixth, junior high school English teachers with different seniority make a significant difference only in three dimensions of the communication and cooperation, sense of responsibility and the attention to feedback.For these problems, the author proposes suggestions to improve the public junior high school English teachers competency levels from two perspectives : firstly, the need to optimize the training modes of teacher competency, focus on teachers' professional growth support. It includes two aspects:(1) Innovation of training mode for English Teachers who are before service and reservation of good teachers for English subjects;(2) the reform of training models for English teacher who arein-service, the enhance of English teachers competency level. Secondly, the junior high school English teachers should establish the sense of lifelong learning, continue the pursuit of self-cultivation competence. It includes three aspects:(1)to establish awareness of lifelong learning and keep a positive and enterprising attitude;(2) both rising level of intelligence, but also pay attention to the practice of non-intellectual factors;(3) to improve learning efficacy with a variety of learning styles.
