According to the new policy of the college entrance examination reform, which will be carried out in June, 2017, the English examination with a score of 150 will be held twice a year. Different from the examination before, in which only written test is available, there will be not only written test but also oral test when the reform is started. Therefore, it goes without saying that oral English becomes more important. This reform also caters to the national English curriculum standards for general high school. However, there are many imperfections in oral English teaching and learning. Different teaching methods, including community language learning approach, lexical-chunk, task-based approach, situation method and scaffolding instructional model, are widely used in oral English teaching. But none of them effectively actualizes the rule of “ensuring students' active role under the guidance of teachers”. In order to solve these problems, the author tries to apply the “336” autonomous learning model to oral English teaching and to testify its efficiency in high school oral English teaching. The “336” autonomous learning model is a kind of autonomous learning. The basic structure of the “336” autonomous learning will be discussed as follows. The first “3” means the three characteristics of the “336” autonomous learning, namely, multi-dimension, large capacity and fast pace. The second “3” means the three modules in the autonomous learning, namely, preparation, presentation and feedback. The number “6” means six steps in the autonomous learning, namely, communication during preparation, goal defining, group cooperation, presentation and promotion, consolidation and compliance assessment. This teaching model, which meets the requirements of quality education and new curriculum reformation, is gradually formed, taking successful teaching reform in other regions for reference. The “336” autonomous learning model with the independent study of students in the classroom as its main characteristic, is valuable, for most of the classroom time is dominated by students themselves instead of the teachers whose duty is to guide students when it is necessary. This thesis tries to answer the following questions with a teaching experiment.1) What problems are found in high school oral English learning?2) What factors lead to the problems in high school oral English teaching?3) What impact does the “336” autonomous learning Model have on improving students' oral English? The author adopts scientific methods to make this thesis reliable and strict. These research methods are dispensable in collecting data and related information about the study. These methods include questionnaires, tests and interview. The research subjects are two classes in Grade 1 of the second high school in Hui Xian, including a total of 102 students.Six chapters are contained in this thesis. Chapter one is introduction. It introduces the research background, significance of the study, research questions, research methods and structure of the thesis. Chapter Two is literature review. It is mainly a brief introduction to researches on the “336” autonomous learning and oral English teaching abroad and at home. Chapter Three is theoretical foundation. The theoretical foundation of this study is constructivism. This chapter mainly focuses on the definition, major thoughts and features of constructivism. Chapter Four is research design. In this chapter, the author presents the research purpose, subjects, instruments and procedures of the research. A sample teaching plan is also presented in this chapter. Chapter Five is results and discussion. In this chapter, the author has collected the relevant data and then analyzed them. The pre-test, post-test, pre-questionnaire, post-questionnaire and interview are presented and analyzed respectively. Chapter Six is conclusion. In this chapter, the major findings are summed up. Limitations of the research and suggestions for further studies are also included. The major findings in the thesis show that the application of the “336” autonomous learning model in high school oral English teaching is effective in improving students' oral English and in arousing their interest in oral English learning. This study can to some extent help English teachers of senior high school improve their teaching and provide some English learning skills for those who are not good at English learning.
