As the international competition becomes increasingly fierce and the basic education reform is carried out worldwide,new curriculum reform have attracted extensive attention from the field of education,which has been the key to improve the teaching quality and to develop basic education.According to the New Curriculum Standard(2011),junior English teaching should "enhance students' comprehensive qualities from three dimensions,i.e.knowledge and skills,process and method,emotional attitude and values".Under the background of the new curriculum,teachers are required to improve their quality,renew their ideas,change their roles,and change their teaching methods and the students,learning styles.However,nowadays middle school English teaching in China,teachers attach far greater importance to cultivating students' knowledge and skills than cultivating students in terms of process and method,emotional attitude and values.English is a highly practical language subject.Students are required to learn words and grammar,and more importantly to know how to use them for communication,especially to learn the its culture during the process of acquisition.English movies,as one of the most significant manifestations of English culture,influenced teenagers a lot during the process of learning English.Therefore,how to introduce English movies to English class teaching,which can improve students'comprehensive ability of using English,especially the oral English,is worth researching and practicing in terms of organizational form,operational approach as well as actual result.Social Constructivism is a new theory emerging in the 1970s and an important change in cognitive learning theory.The theory holds that individuals construct knowledge through language in the sociocultural circumstance which is a result of social interactions.And introducing English movies is based on the theory of Social Constructivism and emphasizes that a language can be acquired through interactions.Based on the related literature and materials in China in recent years,most researchers tend to probe the implementation and impact of cultural introduction teaching method in college English classroom and in senior high school English classroom,but less to improving the middle school students' oral English ability.For this reason,this paper is mainly to discuss the feasibility and the validity of introducing English movies to the English class teaching in middle schools,so as to provide operable strategies for such application and further promote the development of English classroom teaching.In this study,the author chose 55 students of two classes in grade eight at a middle school in Anshan City.Class 1 with 27 students was chosen as Experimental Class(EC),and Class 3 with 28 students was chosen as Control Class(CC).The experiment lasted for 17 weeks from September to December in 2015.During the experiment,the author adopted introducing English movies in the experimental class to help with oral English teaching.Meanwhile,the conventional teaching was utilized in the control class to improve students'oral English ability,such as reading the text,making a dialogue and group activities.The author collected data through questionnaires,pre-test and post-test for quantitative analysis,and made qualitative analysis by classroom observation.From the result of the research,the author finds that:First,the students' oral communicative competence has been increasingly improved in the EC.The students have mastered more standard pronunciation and tones as well as various body language.The most impressive progress they have made is that their vocabulary level rises to a large extent and their insight to English culture become deeper.Second,Compared with the students in the CC,the students in the EC are more willing to participate in the class activity.They have more courage to show and express themselves.Meanwhile,the author has to admit that there are some other practical issues in the process teaching.For teachers,how to plan and arrange the teaching time,how to evaluate students' learning achievements,etc.all need our further research and exploration.Given that,the author proposes some specific suggestions and strategies on strengthening oral English teaching in middle school English class,so as to further the development of English teaching in middle schools.
