The core principles of Task-based Language Teaching Approach(TBLT)are “learning in doing”,“learning by doing” and “learning for doing”.The application of this approach can provide many meaningful tasks and create many authentic contexts for the learners to improve their vocabulary using ability.It focuses on the using of authentic language and on asking learners to do meaningful tasks,such as booking a room,conducting an interview,or making handmade newspapers.The author conducted an action research in Chenzhuang Primary School,which is located at Chenzhuang village in Hongmen Town of Xinxiang.The students from Grade 5 were to attend this study.Among them,there were 5 girls and 7 boys.TBLT Approach was used in their English vocabulary classes.The teaching experiment lasted for four months.This study investigated: 1.What problems arose in the application of TBLT to the teaching of English vocabulary in primary schools of rural areas? What have caused these problems? 2.What ways can be used to solve these problems and make English vocabulary learning more effectively? Based on the methodology of an action research,tests,questionnaires and interviews were used to collect necessary quantitative and qualitative data to be analyzed.The findings of this study show that TBLT approach is effective in enhancing students' vocabulary using ability.The TBLT approach has a positive influence on learner's attitudes towards vocabulary learning,and the students have great confidence and interest in learning English vocabulary.However,some problems arose during the application of TBLT approach: The application of TBLT approach was not that effective.It is difficult for some teachers who lack of professional qualities to apply the TBLT approach in the teaching of English vocabulary.What's more,the English proficiency of the students in rural areas is worse than that of in urban areas,and their parents are outside for work,which makes them know little about the outside world and lack of parental supervision and guidance.To an extent,this caused their incomprehension of some tasks in teaching of English vocabulary and the classroom becomes the only place for them to learn English.Only the teachers,the education department and the parents cooperate with each other,can these problems be solved.
