Class teaching is the core link in the process of English teaching,which has great significance for students to master basic knowledge and skills of one foreign language.The effective class teaching not only helps students effectively master the basic skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing in English,but also cultivate students' positive emotional attitude and cultural awareness so as to promoting the development of students' comprehensive language ability.However,in the present primary school English Teaching,the traditional classroom teaching approaches cannot fully arouse students' learning interest and learning autonomy,therefore,the classroom teaching effect is not satisfactory.Situational teaching is the teaching method which requires teachers to provide more real English learning situations according to the teaching content,students' cognitive characteristics as well as their interest needs.Teachers need to contact with the real life and combine teaching goal with the problem solving process.Eventually,it can improve the effect of class teaching.In recent years,many domestic and foreign experts and scholars began to apply the situational teaching method in classroom teaching practice and achieved good results.But most of these researches are descriptive studies,and focused on the foreign language teaching in the University and middle school.From the perspective of empirical research to investigate the application of situational teaching method in primary school English teaching are rather limited.The present research based on the Situated Cognition Theory and Constructivist Theory,combines quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis,uses questionnaire investigation,interview,pre-test and post-test as research tools and takes students of two parallel classes of Jinjia Street No.3 Primary School in Dalian as research subjects,in order to study the feasibility of applying the situational teaching method in primary school English teaching.It is designed to answer the following three questions: 1.Nowadays,what are teachers' attitudes towards the application of situational teaching? 2.What are the effects of situational teaching on students? 3.How do the English teachers in the primary schools adapt the situational teaching method properly and effectively?The experiment results clearly show that applying the situational teaching method in primary school English teaching can not only help to improve students' learning interest and self-confidence in English learning,but also effectively improve students' English proficiency.Therefore,the teaching effect and teaching quality of English class have been improved correspondingly.Through this research,this thesis hopes to provide a new research perspective and empirical reference for primary school English teaching on theoretical side.In addition,this thesis is expected to provide some advice and enlightenments for Englishteachers' effective implementation of situational teaching on practical side.
