Vocabulary is one of the three elements of a language. It is very important to foreign language. All the English learners and teachers are very sure that it is necessary for learners to learn a large of vocabularies.The National English Curriculum(2011) stipulates that if they reach the vocabulary objective of the fifth grade, junior middle school students should be able to use 1500 to 1600 English words and 200 to 300 idioms or set phrases. However, the efficiency of vocabulary learning has close ties with the vocabulary learning strategies. With regard to the research subjects,domestic and foreign scholars mainly focus on graduate and undergraduate students to study the use of vocabulary learning strategies. But for junior middle school students, they mainly focus on experience, lack systematic exploration. And this study conducted to study the application of English vocabulary learning strategies among junior middle school students and thecultivation of the strategies.This study was made among 120 students in Ningxia xxx Junior Middle School. By undertaking the questionnaire among 120 junior middle school students and conducting data collection and analysis, the writer made an intensive investigation on the students’ vocabulary learning strategies. Through the analysis of the data, the writer found there are variations between the applications of successful learners and unsuccessful learners.Through the analysis of the data, the writer found junior middle school students seldom use vocabulary learning strategies. Most of the students focus on the use of a single, simple vocabulary learning strategies, such as recite word list. The successful learners use more strategies than unsuccessful learners and always get a better effect. The successful learners are more active, and always tend to use a variety of vocabulary learning strategies. Finally, based on the questionnaire, interview and teaching experience, this study suggests that the teacher in the process of English teaching should pay attention to cultivate and improve the consciousness of the students use vocabulary learning strategies, making them more effective use of meta-cognitive strategies, cognitive strategies and emotional strategies.The paper is composed of six parts. The first part is introduction. Theauthor proposes the issue solved in the paper and discusses the importance of vocabulary learning. In the second part, the author describes the basic concept of vocabulary learning strategy and the domestic and foreign scholars’ research on the vocabulary learning strategy. The third part is study design which it includes research problem, research object, research methods and data collection and analysis. The author invested and analyzed the students’ English vocabulary learning strategy status and made a conclusion that good students are better at applying the vocabulary learning strategy comparing with the weak students in the fourth part. In the fifth part, the author summarizes and designs some concrete teaching operating procedures on how to instruct the students to grasp the vocabulary learning strategies. The sixth part is conclusion. The author summarizes the investigation result and points out the excellence and the deficiency and makes a forecast on the research of the vocabulary learning strategies.
