A Study On Vocabulary Learning Strategies By Students' Unbalanced English Learning In Senior High School

We all know, English learning is very important in high school study. However,many students don't know the importance of the vocabulary to English. Expecially, in recent years, many students because one subject which is unbalanced resulted in a total score on the disadvantages of their own, they lose the chance of attending a better university. Every year at the end of the college entrance examination, a lot of such reports are reported: Certain students rejected outside of college because of their unbalanced subject learning. Researches on vocabulary learning though endless in these years, but the author found that unbalanced studies in English vocabulary learning strategies are few. Therefore, the author decided to the Experimental High School in Yanan City to study the regular classes of students who are unbalanced in English learning, the number is about 110. Using Questionnaire and interview methods, their usage of English vocabulary learning strategies were investigated. The author used SPSS17.0 for data collection and has been described statistics and independent samples T-test, etc. In order to understand the general characteristics of the high school students who are unbalanced in English learning about their vocabulary learning strategies, the differences between students who are unbalanced in English learning and those who are balanced in English learning, and also the differences between different genders about their vocabulary learning strategies. In order to solve their problem of side branches, to help them learn more balanced.The main findings of this research are as following: Firstly, the overall usage of vocabulary learning strategies is poor about those who are unbalanced in English learning. This condition don't reach the demand of new curriculum standard. Secondly,there are differences between students with different genders in the usage of English vocabulary learning. According to the survey result, the times of using vocabularystrategies of male students are more than female students. Finally, there are big differences between students who are unbalanced in English learning and students who do well in English vocabulary learning. The differences expression as follows: Students who are good at English use vocabulary strategies as much as they can, but those who are unbalanced in English rarely use the vocabulary strategies.Therefore, during our daily English vocabulary teaching and learning, we should pay more attention to the following aspects:Firstly, according to the survey, the result that the using level of Social Emotional Strategy in English vocabulary learning is particularly lower requires that in the process of English vocabulary teaching, teachers should pay more attention to developing students' sense of using Social Emotional Strategy. And meanwhile, they should also pay more attention to developing students' sense of using Meta-Cognitive Strategy and Cognitive Strategy so that they will improve their whole level of using English vocabulary learning strategies. Secondly, there are significant differences in English vocabulary learning strategies of students from different genders. Female students are using the strategies more often than male students, which requires that we should not only strengthen the students' using of English vocabulary learning strategies,but also try to improve different students from different genders, especially male students' abilities of using English vocabulary learning strategies. Finally,the differences is obvious between students who are unbalanced in English learning and those who aren't in English vocabulary learning. The students who are unbalanced in English learning hardly know how to use the strategies of English vocabulary learning, however, those who do well in English use the strategies of English vocabulary learning very common. This requires that the majority of our educators in the usual should pay more attention to partial and non partial subjects of students in vocabulary learning as much as possible to achieve their studies' balance.
