English homework for Senior high school students is of great importance in Chinese traditional education. As an extension of school education, it is an effective way for teachers to supply the gap of classroom teaching. Since the implementation of New Curriculum Reform, the educational goals in China has changed from exam-oriented education emphasizing student marks to quality-oriented education focusing on integrated development. Both exam-oriented education and quality-oriented education emphasize the positive role of English homework in the English teaching. The purpose of studying the current situation of English homework is to find the better way to improve students' comprehensive abilities to use English, and to push forward the development of the New Curriculum Reform. This passage firstly analyses the research results in China and foreign countries.Combining with the local educational realities, through the questionnaire surveys to 200 students and 17 teachers from key middle schools and ordinary middle schools in Yan'an city, the survey results is summed up from 4 aspects, and they are respectively the English homework's content, finish time, the perception of English homework and the feedback on it. Through summing up survey results, I realize there exist some problems in the current situation of English homework in senior high schools. To find these problems aims to make teachers and students better understand the current situation of homework, then to make progress in the practice of homework.Through this research, some conclusions could be given as below:First, in the aspect of English homework's content, it is less creative and simple in form. Much written work is assigned, and students are not willing to do written work, and they behave more passively.Secondly, in the aspect of finish time, it is relatively proper. Currently, students are assigned homework everyday, and teachers can have a general understanding about the learning capacity of students.Thirdly, in the aspect of perception, teachers and students lack of general understanding. They only pay attention to gain the knowledge, and neglect the training of the abilities to be independent and cooperative. The training of integrated abilities is far from enough and has no big difference from the situation before the New Curriculum Reform.Fourthly, in the aspect of feedback, the feedback given by teachers remains a dominant place. The feedback has two forms, one is simply to mark “×” “?”; the other is to point out the wrong places and to correct them. Obviously, many students prefer the latter form to the former. They also like the comments given by teachers, through which they can gain more references. Meantime, we can see that the forms of feedback given by teachers gradually become diversified, and the form of homework correcting among students and other forms begin to appear.Lastly, this research will give some suggestions on the prominent problems existing in the current English homework in the senior high school. English teaching in the senior high school can use these suggestions for reference and can develop better.
