In recent years,the question that whether too long homework time will lead to students' negative attitude towards homework or not has gradually attracted researchers' attention.Some researchers proposed that too long homework time will lead to students' negative attitude towards homework,while others hold the opposite view.Other researchers also observed that the social-economic status of students' have great impact on the relationship between homework time and homework attitude.What is the true correlation between homework time and homework attitude of primary and middle school students? Does it affected by the family's social-economic status?In order to answer questions mentioned above,this present paper firstly summarized the studies reporting the relationship between homework time and homework attitude of primary and middle school students using the method of meta-analysis.This paper retrieved 10 studies that met the inclusion criteria with 25 effect sizes and 9,950 participants.Meta-analysis found that the overall correlation between homework time and homework attitude is-0.03,that means the longer the homework time,the more negative the homework attitude.And the grade,sample size,literature type,country and other factors affect the correlation between homework time and homework attitude.In general,the correlation between homework time and homework attitude is highly dependent on research conditions,which makes it difficult to draw a general conclusion and extend it to Chinese situation.Subsequently,the paper investigated 1077 primary and secondary school students with the self-designed homework attitude scale and found that(1)there is a significant negative correlation between homework time and homework attitude;(2)the relationship between homework time and homework attitude is different in different subjects,and largest correlation found in mathematics;(3)there is nosignificant correlation between social-economic status and homework attitudes as a whole;(4)the homework time of primary and middle school students from Monday to Friday can significantly and negatively predict their attitudes towards homework and weekdays homework time and weekends homework time are significantly positive predictors of boredom with homework;(5)the mediating effect of social-economic status on the relationship between homework time and homework attitude is not obvious.The results of this paper suggest that teachers should reasonably control students' homework time and assign appropriate amount of homework.Once the amount of homework is too much,students will get bored with it;the boredom will not only appear in the children from good home background conditions,but also in the children from bad conditions.
