Students' English learning effect in secondary vocational schools has been unsatisfactory.A lot of English teaching reform has been carried out.Formative evaluation,taken as one of the reform measures,is introduced into English Teaching in secondary vocational schools with the purpose to change the current demanding situation or part of it.Many English teachers are quite experienced for this in there teaching position.In order to scientifically figure out the effect of formative evaluation on students' English learning,this thesis studies the formative evaluation,does real scientific teaching experiment and researches the effects of formative evaluation of English learners in secondary vocational schools.It is hoped that the findings or conclusions of the research can provide references for teachers and researchers in the field.The purpose of the research is to make clear the effects of formative evaluation on the English learners in secondary vocational schools,so as to find out the significance of the research.It also provides some suggestions and guidance for the English teaching reform in vocational schools according to the results of the research,so as to promote the development of English teaching reform in vocational schools.The main research questions are presented: 1.What are the effects of formative evaluation on the English learning of secondary vocational school students? 2.How to establish scientific and perfect formative evaluation system according to the formative evaluation theory and real situation of secondary vocational students?Teaching experiment is the core of the research,which takes English course Sichuan Pingshan Secondary Vocational Education Center as the object.The research experiment is carried out in experimental class and control class.Each class has 50 students respectively.One is taught and evaluated by formative evaluation system,and the other,the control group is taught and evaluated by traditional teaching and learning evaluation.According to the investigation and test results,the experiment is carried out according to the formative evaluation system for a whole semester.After the completion of teaching and learning,the experimental data is collected.Simultaneously,the data of the control class are also collected.The comparison analysis is made according to the data of English learning index system of experimental class and the control class,so as to make a conclusion and find out the effects of formative evaluation on English learners.By comparing the teaching experiments,the thesis makes conclusion that the formative evaluation has effects on English learners in the secondary vocational schools: first,formative evaluation has promoted the students' learning English language knowledge.There are the particular contents of the evaluation of the students' language knowledge in the evaluation system.With the increasing participation of students in class,their acquisition of language knowledge is promoted.Second,formative evaluation enhances the improvement of students' English language skills.At the same time,the participation of students in English class is getting increased;the abilities of listening,speaking,reading and writing are improved.Third,formative evaluation can promote students' enthusiasm of English learning and establish good learning habits and attitude.The results from the enthusiasm of the students' participation in the classroom and the results of the questionnaires both reflect the influence.Fourth,formative evaluation might not promise a huge jump of English paper test in a short time,but it can be expected that they make progress sooner or later,because the experiment run for only one semester,and generally,the English courses in secondary schools will run for 4 to 6 semesters.The experimental results are not obvious in improving the scores in final exam,but,based on the three effects,it can be inferred that the students will be improved in learning English in future.
