Function is a very important content of mathematics in high school. It runs through the whole high school period and is a core knowledge of high school mathematics. Not only that, function is also a very important content in the college entrance examination. The monotonicity of function is one of important properties of function. There are a lot of problems related to the monotony of functions in the college entrance examination. All the time,however curriculum was reformed, this knowledge of the function was not weakened. But the score obtained by students in this aspect is not satisfied in the college entrance examination. So this article aimed at making teaching reform in Chang'an District tenth high middle school and improving the ability of students in the application of the function.Firstly,the problems in the application of the monotonic function is found out by investigation of teaching and learning activities of teachers and students in Chang'an District tenth high middle school and is analyzed. Then some advices on teaching examples are given. Finally, the teaching effectiveness is evaluated.The main conclusions are:Teachers should understand the basic situation of the students and be familiar with the high school mathematics curriculum standards. Before discussing the questions in the college entrance examination,teachers need to do a summary of the relevant content of the basic knowledge. In the class,teachers should emphasize the importance of college entrance examination for students and know the attitude of students for the college entrance examination. Teachers should strengthen the students' inquiry learning and promote the students' constructivist learning method. When students encounter problems in the class, the students should think about this problem individually first. Then cooperate with the peer. Finally students must explain reason by the themselves. Teachers need to be intend to strengthen the cultivation of students' thinking mode,the application of basic knowledge and the cultivation and application of mathematical ideas.
