This is a study of high-school English reading teaching on Doll's 4R.Doll's 4R theory is a teaching criterion including rich,relational,recursive and rigorous established on post-modern paradigm composed of self-organization,transformation,uncertainness and chaos-into-order etc.Doll put forward a teaching criterion rather than a realistic teaching method,not to say for foreign language teaching.So this study performs integration of special foreign language teaching theory,mainly the interactive teaching consisting of top-down and bottom-up strategy,and meaning-centered,thinking-emphatic and practice-target teaching requirements.Designed on experience,meaning and textual level,Doll's 4R as curriculum rules are developed to research theoretically and practically high-school English-reading teaching.In practice,the study includes teaching two classes for 50 class hours.Questionnaire is designed according to Wen Qiufang's Questionnaire on foreign language learning for the study to get the reading habit of students about meaning generation and construction and recognize the deficiency in learning.The test from previous English tests of National College Entrance Exam is held twice at beginning and end to see the effect.It shows that such a teaching method is useful on improve the learning quality.Through the study we know Doll's theory is effective in improving inner quality of students,and is perceived better against post-modern background.We also should know such a theory is a criterion rather than a systematic method.So it must integrate special mature method.In addition,it is recognized that English reading should be meaning-centered instead of grammar structure and lexical accumulation as the whole task,and pay much attention to thinking method and practice.At last,English reading teaching should be interactive.
