The rapid development of information technology has changed the traditional mode of teaching to a great extent,however,it is controversial whether information technology can achieve the expected results of teaching.It is great exploration of promoting students' ability of science inquiry by using web-based learning environment in educational technology field.Based on the web-based learning environment,the study analyses and summarizes the characteristic of how the the web-based learning environment promote students' scientific inquiry,how WISE works as an example,hoping this can provide some means of use for reference to Chinese development of web-based learning environment and Chinese science education.Based on the background research,two questiones are put forward.First,what are the characteristics that the learning environments have to promote students' science inquiry.Second,how WISE environment romotes students' science inquiry.On the theory level,this study summarizes the web-based learning environment in two categories-scaffolded inquiry environment and immersive environment.Selecting a WISE course as a case,detailed interpretation of its ability to promote the students'scientific inquiry is made,and the theory behind the WISE-Knowledge Integration theory is explained detailedly,which emphasizes the integrated understanding of a major role in improving the students' ability of scientific inquiry.On the practical level,an educational experiment is conducted with one of the WISE courses-"photosynthesis".Four parallel classes are seperated into two groups-experimental group and control group.By comparing the performance of the two groups,we come to a conclusion that WISE promotes students' scientific inquiry better than traditional classes.Based on the study,we hope that Chinese web-based environment can be developed in a more standard,theoretical and scientific way.Teachers in science education field should learn more about the web-baesd environment and use it in their classes.What's more,teachers should care about students' development of interest,hobby,personality and specialty by paying more attention to student's integrated understanding,which is beneficial to promoting their ability of scientific inquiry.
