BackgroundIn recent years,the physical fitness and health of students in our country is one of the important issues about student health problems.Substantial evidences have determined that physical inactivity(PIA)and excessive sedentary behavior(SB)are significant risk factors of the low level of physical fitness and health.Moreover,PIA has been globally regarded as the forth leading factor of mortality,and it has been a new chronic disease,and the prevalence of children and adolescents is high.The health problem of Chinese youth mainly derives of the decreasing trend,comparing to the international health problem resulting from the PIA.Accordingly,to effectively increase the level of physical activity(PA),it is critical to explore the correlates of PA.School education,the important element to constitute the educational system,is a key context to learn knowledge,social laws,morality rules and individual socialization.Hence,students who are instructed by school education system and spend most time during weekday.Therefore,it is essential to investigate the relationship between correlates of school and PA for further PA promoting interventions.ObjectiveThis study aims to explore the current patterns of PA on weekdays,identify the relationship between the moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA)on weekdays.MethodsParticipants were junior high school students in Shanghai,the valid samples of boy is 5807,the valid samples of boy is 6019,the valid samples total 11826,and large scale survey with multi-stage stratified and random cluster sampling.Self-reported questionnaire was used to measure the PA and correlates of school environment,which was partly from the questionnaire which names is sports health index for the Shanghai youth in 2015 years that has moderate reliability and validity.Global Report Card was used to evaluate the level of PA in participants.Analysis of variance,Pearson correlation and linear regression model were used to analyzed the collected data.ResultsChildren and adolescents in Shanghai are in low level of PA,only 14.0% of youth meet the international PA guideline on a week.However,there are 42.6% of youth meet the international PA guideline on weekdays.Significant decrease of PA is observed on weekend compared to weekdays,especially in girls.Five types of correlates of school involved in all was positively associated with the boys physical activity in junior high school in Shanghai,except for the modes of transportation the other five types of correlates of school involved was positively associated with the girls physical activity in junior high school in Shanghai.Sport and exercise out ofcurriculum on weekdays has biggest contribution to PA,both in boys(B=0.177)and girls(B=0.186).additionally,physical education(PE)program and active transportation are positively associated with PA on weekdays in boys(p < 0.01).for girls,PE program is positively associated with PA on weekends in girls(p < 0.01).ConclusionLevel of PA in junior high school student in Shanghai is low,and lower in weekend.Sport and exercise out of curriculum has biggest effect to PA on weekdays in junior high school students in Shanghai.
