Privatization Of Urban Public Space In Contemporary Shanghai

The city's public space is very important and provides a lot of function.From the material level,the public space is one of the environmental elements that must exist in the city and cannot be lacking.From the sociological point of view,it also has an important impact on economic,political and cultural development.What's more,public space has production,it is behind the interests of the parties compete.With the development of urban public space in China,urban public space is gradually lost.What's more,privatization is an unexpected result of the development of urban public space in Shanghai.This study takes Habermas's theory of public domain and Lefebvre's theory of space production as the theoretical perspective.This study analyzes the performance,causes and effects of privatization in the case study of elderly dating corner in the Xuhui Restaurant in Shanghai,IKEA.In this study,the privatization of public space means that,in the public space,the individual translates the public interest into the private interest.It is manifested through a variety of levels:including the physical aspects of the invasion,the violation of norms and the lack of Publicity in social aspects.The study of the privatization of public space is from the virtual space back to the physical space.Through the dimensions of the state,society and individual,the study analyzes the causes of the privatization in Shanghai.In the real world,the city's public space is used to meet the private interests,because the social significance of the "society" and "public space" itself has not formed and imperfect.And the city members think the personal interest is more important than the public interest,and ultimately lead to China's urban public space is difficult to healthy development.The privatization of urban public space has carried on the reconstruction of the social relations among the urban members.It has also challenged the urban development and the cultivation of civil society.Hope this study can show people how to deal with the personalization and how to promote public space in the city.
