Mandarin is the common language of Han people.Since speech is the physical outer covering of language,it is particularly important to master the pronunciation of the standard Mandarin.Mandarin pronunciation teaching plays an important role in the stage of compulsory education,of which primary school is the key period for students to form the whole picture of pronunciation and develop language knowledge.Therefore,it is of great significance to have an effective teaching of pronunciation in the primary school stage.Currently,the teaching effect of pronunciation in dialect districts is not significant,especially in North Shanxi Dialect District.As a result,it is essential to couple with phonetic features of dialect to improve strategies of teaching Mandarin pronunciation in North Shanxi Dialect District.Set in a primary school named L in the south suburb of Da Tong city,through phonetic survey and classroom recording,the study discovers problems existing in Mandarin pronunciation teaching in primary school,that is,problems in teachers' and students' understanding of Mandarin pronunciation and problems in teaching methods.The former is mainly reflected in teachers' and students' inadequate understanding of Mandarin in three aspects like initials,finals and tones while the latter is represented in simple teaching methods and lack of specificity.The causes of these problems have been analyzed which are summarized as follows: the influence of local dialect on teachers and students' understanding of Mandarin,the negative effect of their own understanding of Mandarin pronunciation and the inconsistency of pronunciation training for teachers.Based on the problem and cause analysis,some principles have been set up for improving Mandarin pronunciation teaching: in teaching we should give full play to teachers' dominant role and students' subjectivity and weshould combine theories with teaching practice as well.Founded on the basic principle,effective measures will be put forward to improve Mandarin pronunciation teaching.Besides,teachers can tell difference between different sounds and correct mistakes in Mandarin pronunciation.Effective teaching methods should also be sought out like image simulation,speech recognition in listening and other inside and outside classroom activities.Additionally,schools should create a good environment to promote Mandarin speaking and provide Mandarin learning material for teachers.In conclusion,it is expected that the study will set a good example for those teaching Mandarin pronunciation in North Shanxi Dialect District and help them improve their own Mandarin as well as students'.
