It's universally acknowledged that English writing is an important but difficult part of English teaching in senior high school. How to improve the English writing is what most teachers are concerned about and are doing research on.The previous studies at home and abroad have shown that chunk-based language teaching has had positive effects on the foreign language acquisition. However, most of these studies are descriptive and lacking in real statistics to confirm their theories.Considering this, the author attempts to find whether chunk-based language teaching has any positive effects on Chinese high school students' English writing performance by an empirical study. To elicit empirical data, the author carried out an empirical study on chunk teaching from Feb.to July 1st,2016,by collecting and analyzing data via SPSS.Besides, based on her everyday teaching practice, the author attempts to address some practical methods and measures to improve high school students' English writing performance. In addition,a questionnaire was administered to the relevant students before and after the research so that the author can have a better understanding of students' specific problems with English writing. In this way,the author confirms that chunk-based language teaching has positive effects on high school students 'English writing.By collecting data and making analyses, the author has finally come to the following conclusions: Through chunk-based language learning, the experimental group has made greater progress than the control one in their English writing scores. After the research, the fluency and accuracy of chunks used in students' English writing have also been increased and strengthened. In terms of language structure, the students of the experimental group are better than those of the control group. The students of the experimental group are much more confident in English writing and hold a more serious attitude towards English learning. All these changes taken into account,it can be concluded that chunk-based teaching has positive effects on improving students' English writing performance.
