Due to a variety of factors,English writing teaching is still weak in high schools and students' English writing is actually far from satisfaction.Topic-based teaching mode in English writing is an attempt to improve students' English writing proficiency.Teachers provide students with familiar topics as well as detailed and accurate materials,which is of great benefit to their writing practice.Therefore,students can write compositions of high quality in a limited time by retrieving related topics and organizing the language material in writing,especially compositions in the college entrance examination.Based on the theory of Constructivism,this study makes the best of topic-based teaching mode in English writing so as to create more chances for students to write,inspire their interest in English writing and improve their writing ability.On the grounds of the above background and significance,the study focuses on the following research questions as follows:1)What advantages does topic-based teaching mode in English writing have compared with traditional writing approach?2)What is the effect of topic-based teaching mode in English writing on high school students' writing competence?3)How is topic-based teaching mode applied to English writing teaching practice?One-term-long experimental study has been carried out in two classes at the Changshuo High School of Huzhou City in Zhejiang Province.Through the experiment data of questionnaires and exams,the study reveals that topic-based teaching mode in English writing has following advantages over traditional writing approach in terms of high school students' writing competence.Firstly,this writing mode can arouse students' internal motivation for their confidence in English writing.Secondly,it strengthens students' writing capacity consciously.Therefore,it is an effective way for teachers to improve students' writing level in English teaching.
