The multiple intelligences theory was firstly put forward by the famous American psychologist Howard Gardner in 1983.He claimed that each human being is a unique combination of dynamic intelligences and one's potential can be realized when his or her strong intelligences are fully used. Therefore,it is necessary to apply MIT into the present English classroom, thus the students can be given the chance to learn English with their strong types of intelligences. As a result,English learning can become easier and more effective. The aim of the thesis is to apply MI theory in the English teaching of senior high. This teaching experiment involves two classes: Class 10 and Class 11 of Grade One.Class 10 was chosen as the controlled class, where the author adopted the traditional teaching method. While Class 11 is treated as experimental class in which MIT teaching approach was adopted. In addition, the author used pre-test and post-test to examine whether the students' English proficiency had been enhanced after the application of MIT.Also, questionnaires were used to find out the changes in students' learning attitudes. The results have shown that the MIT-based approach is truly effective in enhancing students' English proficiency and has brought positive effects in students' learning attitudes. The author hopes that this study can provide insights and useful suggestions for teachers in their teaching practices.
