In China,although students in senior high school have enough reading and listening practice in English learning,but lack language output practice,which leads students to be not skilled in the use of English.Therefore,the new English writing teaching methods are emerging.In 2000,Professor Wang Churning,a second language acquisition expert and professor of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies,firstly put forward the Length Approach and reform the concept of foreign language teaching on the basis of Swain's output theory.The Length Approach emphasizes the increase in output through writing,which aims to strengthen students'writing confidence,and thus enhance students' writing ability and proficiency.The successful practice of the Length Approach has received the attention of many researchers who have confirmed that the Length Approach has a positive effect on writing emotion and skill to whatever English major or non-English majors.Therefore,the researchers have further studied the Length Approach.The researches prove that the Length Approach can be applied to English writing teaching in senior high school and it is necessary.At the same time,writing long compositions makes up the deficiency of traditional teaching and promote students' knowledge of foreign language internalization and acquisition.Based on the subjects' English writing level,this study improves the implementation process of the English writing method according to the great researchers' research.This research is to study the influence of the Length Approach on English writing of senior high school students on the basis of the output theory of second language acquisition,Krashen's Input and affective filtering theory and constructivist learning theory.The objects of this research are two classes in Grade two in a senior high school in Dalian who are taught by the same teacher.The specific research questions are as follows:(1)What are the effects of the Length Approach on English writing scores of senior high school students?(2)What are the attitudes towards the Length Approach of the senior high school students?The data are collected mainly by questionnaire,interview and test combined with SPSS software for accurate scientific data analysis.After the experimental research for a semester,this study shows that:before and after the experiment,the students' attitude towards the Length Approach was greatly changed from the original fear to appreciation and acception in EC.Before the experiment,the writing scores of students in EC and CC are almost the same.However,after the application of the Length Approach in EC,although the average scores both in the experimental class and the controlled class have improved,the students in EC have made much more progress in English writing than the students in controlled class.The research also found that the Length Approach has a positive effect on students' writing.There is a great improvement on students' writing ability and proficiency in EC.
