Vocabulary is an essential part of language,which is of vitality in foreign language learning.Vocabulary learning is regarded as a basic requirement for language learning.However,it has been considered as a challenge for numerous students in English learning.Language learners show low efficiency and poor performance in vocabulary learning.The newly-issued curriculum standards for senior high school students improve the requirements for the quantity of vocabulary,and request learners to effectively use control strategies,cognitive strategies,resource strategies and social strategies of the four learning strategies.The studies show that effective use of vocabulary learning strategies can improve the efficiency of vocabulary learning and prompt English learning ability.In recent years,researchers at home and abroad have carried out multidimensional studies on vocabulary learning strategies.However,few studies on vocabulary learning strategies among senior high school students of arts and science,but for college students.Therefore,the study is designed to investigate vocabulary learning beliefs and the use of vocabulary learning strategies among 240 senior high school students in Mu Danjiang NO.1 Middle school,based on the new English curriculum standards,as well as compare the differences and similarities of vocabulary learning strategies used by the students of arts and science through the interviews and questionnaire.Through the investigation and analysis of vocabulary learning strategies used by senior high school students,the writer discoveries that: the current situation of vocabulary learning strategies used by senior high school students is at medium level;most of students of arts and science generally believed that vocabulary should be learned by using preferably;the use of vocabulary learning strategies between the students of arts and science has a certain difference in control strategies and social strategies,showing similarities in resource strategies and cognitive strategies.Based on the following findings,the author gives some suggestions on the application and cultivation of English vocabulary learning strategies for senior high school students tohelp students to promote vocabulary learning beliefs,and guide students to use vocabulary learning strategies alternatively.
