Politeness plays an important role in communication.In class teaching,teaching and learning can only be completed through inter-communication,thus,choosing an appropriate kind of evaluation language plays an essential role in English teaching.Based on the principles of Face Theory proposed by Speech Acts,Brown and Levinson and the Politeness Theories of Leech as well that of Gu Yueguo,the author of this study conducted a survey on the current situation of the employing of teachers’ evaluation language of the English teachers in middle schools of Yili State.The author employs the method of video recording as well that of using questionnaires to figure out how the teachers use teachers’ evaluation language in their class teaching from the aspects of form,lexical and syntax so as to find out pragmatic features of teachers’ evaluation language.The subjects of this study are 23 English teachers from Yili State and 300 students selected from Grade 7,they are from 3 Junior Middle Schools in Yining.By employing the methods mentioned above,the author figures out the features and distribution of teachers’ evaluation language.Statistical study has been conducted in the study.In terms of the results,the author classified the evaluation language into the features as follows: there are five forms of teachers’ evaluation language,they are praise,approval,suggestion,error correction and criticism.Among five forms,the frequency use of approval and praise are used highly than others.There are three lexical expressions of teachers’ evaluation language,partial agreement and complete agreement are frequently used,and disagreement is seldom used.As far as syntax of teachers’ evaluation language is concerned,imperative sentence,declarative sentence and interrogative sentence are commonly used,and imperative sentence is more frequently used.Using positive classroom evaluation language is to save students’ negative face in order to show the respect to students,help to build up students’ confidence.And then harmonious atmosphere of teaching and learning will be created.
